Fall Into Autumn Eco-Style

Even the change of season can bring about eco-conscious living.  When we think of the fall, we think of warm throw blankets and soothing teas.  I personally love this season because of all of the apple creations that are possible in the kitchen.

How about going an extra step this fall to make healthy, eco-friendly choices about the food you prepare, the decoration you put up and the products you buy?

Even though green is not the color of choice for fall, here are some ways you can tackle it eco-style:

1- Candles make the season warm and inviting.  Use 100% pure beeswax candles.  These are made with pure essential oils, which not only makes your home smell of sweet cinnamon, but they also purify the air you breathe (unlike parafin candles that only add toxins to your home).

2- Tea is ok.  But chai tea with warm spices and other natural ingredients takes it to another level.

3- Apples in desserts are divine.  But organic apples are tastier and pesticide-free.  Win-win.

4- Canning and preserving is amazing as long as you use fresh, organic ingredients.  Your palate will thank you in the dead of winter.

5- Decorate your home without buying one more new thing.  Do you have an orange, brown or red shawl?  Place it over the arm your couch, add some fall-colored fruits in a bowl on your coffee table, and have your kids create some fun art with leaves.  There.  You've just seasoned up your home eco-consciously.

Do you have an apple recipe to share with me?  Or any fall favorite activities?

  1. Love this post! Fall is my absolute FAVORITE season! One of my favorite things about Fall is going to all of the different farms in my area. I've already bought some pumpkins from a local family that are just the nicest people. Because they are a small family farm, I normally can get 5 pumpkins for $5. Another bonus for shopping local! :)

    1. Yes! What a bonus for getting to know our local farmers. Will you be making some of your fantastic pumpkin spice biscotti with those pumpkins? http://www.etsy.com/listing/80217087/pumpkin-spice-biscotti-with-roasted

  2. Here is a recipe for a healthy Apple Pie. It uses whole wheat rather than lard.
